Gutless Democrats and Republican Zombies

Let's get this straight, the 26 Democrats who crossed party lines to approve a Republican amendment that denies the use of the "Reconciliation Process" to approve or disapprove cap and trade legislation on a simple majority vote are not concerned with bipartisanship. They know that the Republican Zombies in the senate are only interested in bipartisanship if it means that they get everything they want. What these gutless Democrats are doing is attempting to avoid being seen voting "no" on cap and trade.

President Obama and his legislative agenda are tremendously popular, and any Democratic senator who votes against the president does so at his or her peril. If they allow the cap and trade legislation to be filibustered into never coming up for a floor vote, they avoid having to against this popular bill, and they can let the Republicans take the heat.

Fortunately, this amendment is not binding, and the conference committee that unifies the house and senate budget bills can and should insert the reconciliation language. This would cause the Republican zombies to scream like, well, like zombies. But who cares?

Congress has started to get higher approval rating because they have been getting things done and passing Obama's agenda., and recent polling seems to indicate that about 65% of us are more concerned with enacting the president's budget (including cap and trade) than in bipartisanship (which the Republicans won't allow).

I urge everyone to write their Democratic senators and representatives and tell them that we have seen through the slight of hand. That refusing to use the reconciliation process is voting against cap and trade.
