Supporting Health Care Reform: A Brief Letter to Senators. (They don’t need a long letter.)
Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 2:09PM Below you will find the text of a letter supporting Health Care Reform that I sent today to my Democratic Senators (Boxer and Feinstein).
I encourage my readers to use this link (Senate Addresses) to find the e-mail address for their senators and write to them supporting this important legislation. (Those of you who have one or more Republican Senators will want to read my suggested letter to a Republican Senator which follows the letter to Democratic Senators.
To Democratic Senators
Dear Senator X:
I urge you to pass Health Care Reform through the Senate as soon as possible using whatever procedure is available. Bellow you will find 4 points I think are important for you to consider.
- Bipartisanship would be nice, but it is not as essential as action.
- Americans are dying waiting for Health Care Reform, and we don’t care if you have to use the “Nuclear Option” to kill the filibuster or pass the legislation through reconciliation without a single Republican vote.
- To keep Obama’s pledge not to increase taxes for the middle class, support taxing the rich rather than taxing “Cadillac” health care plans to pay for the reform.
- Support a “Public Option” if possible, but it is not an absolute essential.
Thank you in advance for supporting this vital legislation.
Giles A. de Mello,
Redding CA
To Republican Senators
Dear Senator X:
Since you are a Republican, I know that urging you to vote for the Democrat’s Health Care Reform bill is probably as useful as shouting at a jet flying overhead. However, if demonstrate possession of a conscience by voting for the Democrat’s Health Care Reform legislation, I promise to vote for you the next time you run. (Otherwise you can count on my supporting your Democratic opponent).
While Scott Brown may have earned some right-wing anger for voting for the recent jobs bill, he has also earned the respect of those of us who value political independence, and I believe we are in the majority in both parties.
I will not argue the merits of the current legislation with you. You know that, although it is not perfect, it is good legislation that incorporates many conservative ideas. You also know that Americans are literally dying for lack of health insurance and health care reform.
Put America ahead of partisanship and support the Democratic Plan!
Sincerely,
(Name)
